Nick was introduced to narrowboating during the summer of 1958 (6yrs old).  Health & Safety didn't feature much in those days - here I'm sitting on the lock gates with legs dangling (how did we survive?).  Mother and older sister bring the 1950s hire boat into the lock at New Martin's on the Llangollen Canal - and no queues at locks then.
